LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – In a building as old as the La Crosse Footwear Building, a brand-new industry is taking shape in La Crosse, Carbon Cannabis just began operations this month, turning local hemp into CBD products.
“Taking CBD oil, and other cannabis derived products, it really helped me with ailments I was dealing with. If it be anxiety, pain, that sort of thing,” said CEO Austin Wszolek.
When Wszolek met Matt Boshcka, owner of the CannaBiz shop in downtown La Crosse, Boshcka was concerned with the high volume of poorly made CBD products on the market.
“He was having a hard time sourcing local products that he could really trust. Something you could see from seed to sale.”
“The product I’m going to be selling in my Cannabiz depot locations is going to be from Wisconsin farmers, grown organically, and it’s going to be pesticide and heavy metal free,” said Boshcka.
Pesticides and heavy metals can be found in some CBD products on the market. The state of Wisconsin does not have many regulations in place for production.
“There’s a lot of people not following regulation as they should, from a state standpoint there’s not much we have to follow. So we want to put ourselves to a higher standard, even if nobody is quite yet,” added Wszolek.
Carbon Cannabis is just beginning to get their products in stores but want to make sure it’s done safely.
“We want people to know that they’re not buying some material from the black market. They could vape and potentially get seriously injured from,” said Boshcka.
